Welcome: Behind Be You Counselling

Updated: May 12, 2022

Hello! It's Betty, the founder of Be You Counselling. In addition to my role as a counsellor, I wear the hat of researcher. Admittedly, I have been out of the publishing world for quite some time since I came out of the academy. This blog is intended as a way to reconnect with the writer in me and to connect with you.

About This Blog

In both my clinical and research work, I have always been curious about lived cultural experiences, including race, ethnicity, and gender. In this blog you will find my thoughts as a bicultural cis-woman, second-generation immigrant settler, counsellor, researcher, and human on topics such as BIPOC mental health, intersectional identities, the Asian diaspora, systems of oppression, gender, and trauma -- and perhaps, on occasions, my marvelling at all things dog.

Happy (and Safe) Reading

While this medium is a wonderful platform of expression and tool to build community, I am acutely aware of the lack of safety as a woman of colour on the internet. Because my readers often belong to marginalized communities, I have turned off the comments section as I do not have the capacity to moderate hate that so frequently appears in such spaces. And no, I don't want to learn how you "made $100k in 5 days". That said, I am human, and I will probably make mistakes. If you do have comments, questions, or concerns about my posts, you are welcome to contact me at betty@beyoucounselling.com. I hope you find connection and kinship through this blog.
